When the PPSMI program started they are many CD's given to our pupils so that they can use and access them in their home. It is one of the example of standalone educational software. It is a preferred method rather than pupils themselves downloaded it from the website and email.
However, the government is also provided some of the links as an additional preferences in the textbook. And what is more interesting is, they divided it into 3 parts which are for teacher, parents and pupils. Thanks! It do help me to download some reliable programs as my teaching aid, Alhamdulillah.
What is the definition of educational software actually? Wikipedia define it as Courseware is a term that combines the words 'course' with 'software'. Its meaning originally was used to describe additional educational material intended as kits for teachers or trainers or as tutorials for students, usually packaged for use with a computer. The term's meaning and usage has expanded and can refer to the entire course and any additional material when used in reference an online or 'computer formatted' classroom.
For me as a teacher, I have a very simple definition of educational software according to my very own experience. It is an interactive application, either in standalone or web application; that can be used to support, learn and improve teacher and pupils' to mastering the topic. The best thing when you used and educational software is you will get a direct feedback and also the explanation of your wrong answer.
Educational courseware is always interesting because there are many multimedia elements integrated into it; such as:
a)Text
b) Sound
c) Animation
d) Video
e) Flash
